Decision log

Importance of decision log

A decision log is an internal communication tool that provides information to all stakeholders of how a decision was reached, what other options were considered, and who is accountable for the decision. It guides the team members and can eliminate confusion and conflicts.

The list of all key parts of a decision

• Reference for the decision

• Date decision was made

• What was agreed and why

• Who agreed to it

The Decision Log Service is a specialised Virsas tool that helps you to keep track of made decisions. The reason why and when they were made, and a list of other considered options that did not make the final cut.

Project management

There are two ways to create a project. One is from the main page of the decision log service. The second one is from the team management page located at the top right corner. You can create as many teams as you wish with any number of members. This way, each team can manage its list of decisions.

Access of project members

Members of a project can access, manage and read the decisions of the project. Only an administrator can add or remove project members. The read and write access is based on the role assigned to each user and can be found in the user list.

Creating a decision

Within each project, you can create any number of decisions. Each decision should get a name, description, some relevant data and date when it should be completed. The project lead is in charge of following up on proof of concept and decision making.

Decision options

It would help if you created a decision for every single task of a project. This way, you can remove the clutter of information from within one document. Instead, you have a list of decisions of the project, each with all possible options. During the decision-making meeting, you should add pros and cons to each option and decide the course of the action by choosing the right one.
